This is my first PSP tutorial, written for my friends at thePlace

Tools and Materials Needed:

• PSP 9 or 8--This tutorial was written for PSP 9 or 8
• A basic knowledge of PSP layers is needed



• Any blocky bold font can be used, any arial-type, plain tubular, etc.
• For my milk chocolate bar, I used Mr Goodbaur, a free font
• For small dark chocolate bar, I used Kabel Ult BT ~ from PSP fonts
• For the I LOVE YOU chocolate bar, used Marbolo-Normal ~ from PSP fonts

• Hurshey's (font id=624) Download here
• Vanilla Boys (font id=533) Download here
• Mr Goodbaur (font id=457) Download here


• Colors are chocolate browns
• There is a note for rich dark chocolate colors after step 2



• Plugin used is Eyecandy 3  --needed for an effect on text
  Free Eyecandy 3 is available here (Legit, not a hack--free since v.4 came out)

Download zip file, then open in ~ My Psp Files, in Picture Tubes folder

Ready to begin?

1. Open new image, 250x250
• Transparent not checked, bg color checked
• use brown color for background
• medium brown= R99-G67-B20 (or #634314 in html box) for a milk chocolate bar
• you might need larger width for a long name ~ try 250x350


2. Text tool, horizontal text, write name in center as vector
     I like to do almost all my text as vector for best flexibility
• text color set to medium-light Chocolate brown= R211-G137-B17 (or #d38811 in html box)
• style=Mr Goodbaur, size=72 for very short name
• Kabel Ult BT works well also, size=48
• Marbolo-Normal was used for I Love You chocolate bar, size=48
• no stroke, leading=0, tracking=0
• anti-alias=sharp, auto kern=checked
• adjust size, placement with vector nodes
• Place in center of chocolate

Save as PspImage often

Note: For a dark Chocolate bar, use very dark-brown for background= R57-G37-B15 (or #39250f in html box)
and medium-brown for text= R134-G88-B28 (or #86581c in html box)
adjust colors if you want to what pleases you


3. Next, do Ctrl d to De-Select
• You did text as vector, so right click on text layer in Layers Palette
• then choose "convert to raster layer"


4. You now have 2 layers
• bottom layer= "background", top layer= "raster 1"
• make sure "raster 1" is highlighted for next step


5. Highlite "raster 1" and Apply Adjust, Blur, Gaussian Blur, with radius=2.00 to text layer only



6. Make sure text layer ("raster 1") is highlighted, then make duplicate layer
• Right click on new layer, and re-name as "raster 2"


7. You now have 3 layers, "background", "raster 1", and "raster 2"



8. Highlite "raster 1", go to Layers, Merge, Merge Down, merging it with background
• You now have 2 layers
• bottom layer= "background", top layer= "raster 2"



Save as PspImage often

9. Highlite "Background" layer
• Go to Adjust, Blur, Blur More


10. Go to Image, Rotate, rotate Clockwise 90



11. Highlite "Background" layer
• Go to Effects, Distortion
• Apply Wind, from LEFT, Strength=40


12. Highlite "Background" layer
• Go to Effects, Distortion
• Apply Wind, from RIGHT, Strength=80




13. Go to Image, Rotate, rotate Counterclockwise 90, so its straight again
    Now we'll add the text effect with EyeCandy3

Save as PspImage often

14. Highlite "raster 2", and go to Effects, Plugins, EyeCandy
• EyeCandy--choose Inner Bevel
• Bevel Width=20
• Shape=Rounded
• Smoothness=6
• Shadow Depth=50
• Highlite Briteness=30
• Highlite Sharpness=30
• Direction=135
• Inclination=45


15. Does your name look like chocolate?
    Next ~ Crop to candy-bar size



16. Highlite "Background" layer
• go to Effects, 3D effects
• Buttonize, height=6, width=6
• if you want big thick bar, make height=8,width=8
• opacity=65, transparent
• color= R254-G237-B204 (or #feedcc in html box)
• very light tan--or use your own color here to show up more

Save as PspImage often

17. Export as Optimized GIF, with 256 colors

Your name is now a yummy chocolate bar!
